Trays out? Yes! Trays in? Ummm…not really.
One of the huge advantages of Invisalign over braces is that you can chew normally when you take your trays out. We have had patients who tried to chew gum with their trays in but it can make a mess and tends to pull the trays loose. If you’re a gum chewer like my wife is, you can still chew gum while you have Invisalign. Just remove your trays, chew your gum for a bit and then get rid of the gum and put your tray back in.
Don’t Forget To Wear Your Trays Enough Time Each Day
The danger with gum and Invisalign is that it’s easy to forget to put your trays back in. In order to work effectively, you need to wear your trays 22 hours a day. You can find some gum chewing in those two tray-less hours, but don’t get distracted and chew gum beyond that unless you don’t mind being in Invisalign for the rest of your life! (That’s a joke… sort of.)
Sugarless Only, Please, Unless You Want Cavities
As always, I only recommend sugarless gums. Nobody wants sugar getting squished all throughout their teeth with the gum. That’s a great way to get cavities.
