How can clear plastic trays straighten teeth?
How does Invisalign work? Invisalign uses clear plastic trays to move teeth into alignment. They use a model of your teeth today to digitally create a final model of how your teeth will look straightened. They then calculate the path that your teeth need to take to match the final model. They make a series of plastic trays that match your teeth in each of those future positions. Each tray is just barely closer to the final and just slightly different from where your teeth are today. The gentle pressure from the new tray moves the teeth into the new position and eventually your teeth match the final model.
Doesn’t it use more than plastic trays?
Besides the clear plastic trays, Invisalign often requires small composite buttons on the surface of your teeth. These are temporary and provide the trays with a firmer hold on the teeth to move them in specific ways. In rare cases, Invisalign also involves rubber bands.
How Does Invisalign Work vs Braces?
Invisalign and braces both straighten teeth by moving them into alignment with pressure. In braces, brackets on each tooth attach to a wire that puts pressure on the tooth pushing or pulling it into alignment. With Invisalign, the pressure comes from the trays. Both methods straighten teeth and there are pros, cons and limitations to both.
